DUCTED AIR CONDITIONING ZONING SYSTEMS

A good zoning system is important to ensuring your Ducted System is energy efficient and is not wasting electricity by running air-conditioned air into areas of your home that are not in use, this is a common problem with traditional older style zoning system such has the Zone Switch.

In the past, your climate control was just on or off, meaning your system is cooling the entire house, which wasn’t very efficient, the HVAC industry has come along way since then!  With a professional installation, the correct size system for your home and a good zoning system you can save substantially on your electricity bill. 

We often see clients being quoted bigger sized units with a limited number of zones and the older style zoning system.  Older style zoning requires a large common zone (constant zone) which remains open at all times to prevent air pressure build-up and damage to the ductwork. The common zone can occupy up to 25% or more of a home, and you will pay to heat or cool it regardless of whether you use that area which creates wastage, especially at night once you have gone to bed. 

Clients often ask us if they should zone all their rooms, our answer is yes, zoning each room doesn’t mean all your rooms are being air-conditioned at once, it means you have the option and flexibility to only open the zones in occupied rooms and close zones in rooms, not in use.  This removes the need for a constant zone!
